Egyptian blogger condemned to four years in prison
Being sick with the flu and sleeping through most of yesterday made me miss the news that Abdel Kareem Nabil (whom I have written of earlier in this blog), has been senteced to three eyars in prison for "insulting islam" and an aditional year for "insulting President Hosni Mubarak".
There is so much wrong with this story, I can't even begin unravel the factual atrocities in it. I urge you all to boycot everything Egyptian. And while you are at it, send an email to your Egyptian embassy of choise, demanding the emidiate release of Karim!

I've just read your post about it here, plus two other blogposts -- I haven't researched it.
My initial reaction is that Mubarak has to shut this guy down because 1) any free voice is potentially a threat to Mubarak's regime and 2) since radical Muslims, backed by Saudi Arabia, have been working to bring about regime change in Egypt for decades, Mubarak wanted to pacify them a little.
Insulting Islam is only a pretext here to silence opposition.

Yeah! And as I have understood it, Kareem has not only been criticising the Egyptian regime and islam, but has also redempted any legal counseling during his clashes with the courts of his country.
Now- being a prisoner in egypt is no dance on roses. Even being a suspect, will most likely put you through interrigation methodes up on par with what we could expect under the worst years of the Spanish inquisition.
I'm really not shure if Kareem just has got a deathwish; or if he is a genuine hero. But! Noone deserves ANY prisontime only for speaking up his or hers mind.
But then again. Thet's the middeleast for you And that's what the leftist under the allencompassing cloake of multiculturalism want's to enforce on you.
Be afraid. Be very afraid...
